For this new presentation at the Galerie 3, Mathieu Valade invites us to a contemplative experience. Technologies, aesthetics and pictorial tradition converge in works with contrasting material and conceptual relationships. Promoting an almost methodical research on the digital pixel, the artist explores this motif in landscapes imbued with a romantic sensibility. Valade’s videos and drawings unfold in assertive devices oscillating between technology and craftsmanship. Although different in their material approach and their treatment, his works are nevertheless joined in their mode of perception. Not without evoking the Impressionist touch or the plastic research, his landscapes also reveal a modernist and formalist aesthetic that echoes the artistic and historical affinities of the artist.
Read more » Born in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, Mathieu Valade lives and works in Chicoutimi. He exhibited his work at the MAC VAL (Paris), the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec and in numerous artist-run centres, galleries and major events in Canada, Brazil, the United States, France, Spain, Greece and Sweden. His works are part of the permanent and Prêt d’œuvres d’art collections of the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec, the Musée d’art contemporain de Baie-Saint-Paul, Pierre Courtin Collection, Biron Health Group, as well as many private collections.
